Background

The Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) has responsibility for managing the state's Capitol Complex, which is a focal point for Iowans and a leader in energy efficiency results. Additionally, the agency manages the Iowa Energy Bank, a stimulus-funded $35 million revolving loan program to finance energy saving programs in state and local governments, schools, hospitals and colleges. The agency is committed to identifying and implementing cost effective energy management improvements in public and non-profit facilities in Iowa.

As a Better Buildings Challenge Partner, the DAS has committed to reducing energy consumption in over 17 million square feet of buildings by at least 20 percent by 2020. This commitment includes reducing energy in the 2.4 million square foot Capitol Complex 20 percent by 2015, and having the Energy Bank finance projects that reduce energy consumption by at least 20 percent.
