Kentucky Community and Technical College System

Background

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), founded in 1997, is a system of 16 comprehensive community and technical colleges operating on 68 campuses. KCTCS is the largest provider of postsecondary and workforce training in Kentucky, enrolling more than 51 percent of Kentucky’s postsecondary public headcount enrollment and offering more than 600 program offerings. The mission of KCTCS is to improve the employability and quality of life of Kentucky citizens as the primary provider of: College and Workforce Readiness, Transfer Education, and Workforce Education and Training.

In November 2010, KCTCS launched the KCTCS Green+ Initiative, a sustainability initiative, that includes energy efficiency and environmental conservation as primary goals. KCTCS is committed to conserving energy through cultivating behavior and partnerships that promote responsible stewardship of resources, providing educational opportunities about alternate energy, and adopting best practices at the 16 KCTCS colleges and the System Office. KCTCS will be targeting 7 million square feet to achieve an 20% reduction in energy use by 2020.
