Background

Cummins Inc., a global power leader, is a corporation of complementary business units that design, manufacture, distribute, and service engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. Headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, (USA) Cummins employs approximately 40,000 people worldwide and serves customers in approximately 190 countries and territories through a network of more than 600 company-owned and independent distributor locations and approximately 6,000 dealer locations.

As a Better Buildings Better Plants Challenge Partner, Cummins has committed to a 25% energy reduction (per dollar revenue) by 2015 from its 2005 baseline. The company has already taken a number of steps to achieve this target, including setting up a dedicated energy efficiency capital fund, pursuing ISO 50001 certification, and training a broad network Energy Champions to help lead its energy efficiency efforts. As part of this effort, Cummins will be taking on a whole building improvement of a large manufacturing plant, to include plant wide heating and cooling upgrades, compressed air optimization and controls upgrades. The company will explore powering a large manufacturing and office site by a combination of Cummins' own energy solutions in addition to other renewable energy sources.
