25% Reduction in Energy Intensity by 2018
Market Innovation
Briggs & Stratton has formed energy teams at every manufacturing facility. Teams meet locally and monthly (conference call), and annually have best practice meetings (in-person) to exchange ideas and receive energy training. The company has seen great benefits from this corporate-wide integration. The team is the cornerstone of Briggs & Stratton's energy efficient efforts in its manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and warehouses.
Progress to Date
14% reduction in energy intensity was realized since 2007. As an organization, Briggs & Stratton has taken major steps in minimizing the environmental impact of its products and manufacturing operations around the globe. For example, energy use in the last four years has been reduced by 50 million kilowatt hours, equivalent to a 14% reduction in energy intensity used in manufacturing our products. This is a giant step in our goal that was signed with the Department of Energy to reduce our energy consumption.

For more than 100 years, Briggs & Stratton's legacy of social responsibility, community involvement and economic performance has been a testament to its longstanding commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The recent trend toward green manufacturing has only served to strengthen its commitment to sustainability. Briggs & Stratton is committed to reducing it energy intensity by 25 percent by 2018 in all 8 US manufacturing plants and a total of 5.8 million square feet of facility space.
