Patents and Licensing

A patent is an instrument by which the United States grants an inventor the right to exclude others from making, using, or selling an invention for a term of years. To qualify for a patent, the invention must be new, useful, and a non-obvious process or product.
Patenting enables FPL to grant patent licenses, which provide an important avenue for technology transfer. The exclusive nature of patent licenses promotes the transfer of technologies to the private sector for commercial markets.

Below is a list of patented technologies that were invented by Scientists from the Forest Product Laboratory and other US Forest Service Research Stations. All are available for licensing and/or cooperative research opportunities.
