1/29/2013 - KADENA AIR BASE, Japan  -- Did you know, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 22 to 64 percent of individuals who travel to developing countries such as Africa, the Philippines, Cambodia and Thailand have experienced mild symptoms of various illnesses?

These symptoms include diarrhea, respiratory infections, skin problems or other infectious diseases. In fact, roughly eight percent of the more than 50 million travelers to developing regions become ill enough to seek medical care, either while abroad or upon returning home.

The public health flight, located on the third floor of the Kadena medical clinic, can provide you with pre-travel education regarding potential travel-related health risks and prevention recommendations.

Public health will work with you and your primary care provider to ensure you are medically prepared for travel with country specific recommendations based on the most current CDC guidelines.

The public health flight lives by the motto, "Preventing illness is easier than finding a cure."

Next time you are preparing for an excursion abroad, remember to stop by public health or call 630-1998 for travel medicine recommendations.
