  1. Today I was honored to present Patricia Dresch a burial flag for her late father Pasquale Spero, who served in the United States Navy in the late 1940’s. In an unspeakable tragedy, Ms. Dresch lost both her husband and her daughter as a result of Superstorm Sandy, in addition to losing her father’s original burial flag. I hope that this small act can bring her some joy in what is understandably a very difficult time.

    • I do not own a gun...but please tell our President and Vice presidents in no uncertain terms to get their hands off my second amendment right. The reason our revolutionary forefathers gave it such importance is still valid today and will always be. A reminder that our elected officials are the public servants of a free people...not the other way around.

Liberty Mutual won't cover the mold clean up in my house in Midland Beach. Says my husband and I should have entered home following the storm and cleaned it ourselves, despite it being red tagged by the city clearly stating "do not enter or occupy or you risk injury or death."

  3. Today, I was joined by Senator Schumer in calling on the National Park Service to do everything possible to keep the Nichols Marina on Staten Island from shutting down after Superstorm Sandy destroyed its docks. This marina is an important engine of economic activity and I will do everything in my power to ensure that it is permitted by NPS to be rebuilt.

  8. The news that US Marine Jon Hammar has been released from a Mexican prison where he has been wrongfully detained since August, is truly a Christmas blessing. Earlier this week, I called for a US Boycott of travel to Mexico until his release. As a fellow Marine, I am proud to be part of an effort in Congress that led to the release of an innocent Marine.
  9. Tonight at approximately 7pm I will lead an hour of floor discussion in the House on the urgent need to swiftly pass an aid package. I will be joined by colleagues from the NY and NJ delegation. Tune into CSPAN to watch.
