Energy Saving Assessments

On October 3, Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman announced, as part of the national "Easy Ways to Save Energy" campaign, that the Department of Energy would be performing Energy Saving Assessments at large Federal facilities and 200 of the most energy-intensive manufacturing facilities in the United States.
As of December 16, a total of 31 Energy Saving Assessments have been performed (26 Federal facilities and 5 industrial plants). The Federal facilities will use the assessments to take steps to reduce consumption of natural gas during the upcoming winter months when natural gas demand is at its peak. In addition, nearly 286 applications from private industry have been received, representing 641 individual plants. Of these applications, over 40% have been identified as being the most energy intensive and will be considered as possible recipients of an Energy Savings Assessment.
