    Speaking on Fox News today about the fiscal cliff negotiations, Senator Corker said House Speaker John Boehner “has done everything possible” to put our nation’s fiscal challenges “in the rearview mirror so we can start January 1st focused ...on growing our economy,” but “the president still is not forthcoming…with any tangible entitlement reforms,” noting “without that you cannot save our country.” Corker has proposed a $4.5 trillion fiscal reform plan that would generate additional revenue through pro-growth tax reform and make necessary reforms to save Social Security and Medicare. Last week, anticipating the president and Speaker Boehner might not reach such an agreement, Corker introduced a bill to raise the debt ceiling by roughly $1 trillion in exchange for roughly $1 trillion in reforms to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.     Anticipating the possibility that an agreement to avert the fiscal cliff might not adequately reduce the nation’s long-term deficits, Senator Corker today introduced legislation to raise the debt ceiling by roughly $1 trillion in exchange f...or roughly $1 trillion in reforms to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. “I continue to hope Speaker Boehner and President Obama will negotiate a deal north of $4 trillion before year-end, but I think we should also prepare now for the possibility that they do not. The next opportunity we have to make the structural, transformative reforms to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid that will save these programs and put our country on a path to fiscal solvency is the debt ceiling debate,” said Corker. “I’ve introduced dollar-for-dollar legislation that will raise the debt ceiling by roughly $1 trillion in exchange for roughly $1 trillion in reforms to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. This bill incorporates many of the recommendations made in the bipartisan Simpson-Bowles and Domenici-Rivlin proposals. This bill meets our obligations to older and younger Americans. Young Americans expect us to solve our fiscal issues so they aren’t saddled with debt and robbed of their opportunity for the American dream.     An estimated 125 Tennesseans from nine different counties attended a Rally Point veterans event last Friday in Gallatin. The event was sponsored by the offices of Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander and U.S. Congressman Diane Black, as ...well as Sumner County Executive Anthony Holt, Gallatin City Mayor Jo Ann Graves, the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs and the Gallatin Civic Center. Over 25 agencies and organizations with information for veterans on a number of resources, including VA claim assistance, vocational rehabilitation, education, employment, mental health, housing and business loans were in attendance. The event was the fourth in a series of Rally Point events organized by Senator Corker’s office in an effort to provide veterans and their families with a one-stop shop to access local resources. A combined 1,225 Tennesseans have attended Rally Point events in Knoxville, Cookeville, Jackson and Gallatin this year.See More

    Appearing on NBC's Meet the Press to discuss fiscal cliff negotiations between the president and House Speaker John Boehner, Senator Corker said, “Until we get to entitlements, we're really not having a serious discussion,” noting Republicans have offered to raise additional revenue by limiting tax deductions without raising tax rates, but the president has yet to propose needed reforms to save Medicare and other entitlement programs, which are running out of money and threaten to bankrupt the country. He also argued for both parties to reach agreement now on a major fiscal reform plan like the one he has proposed because the options “are going to get more narrow as time goes on” and “creating another fiscal cliff down the road…lacks political courage.” http://bit.ly/TBFDGp
