MIAMI — U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced the cause and manner of detainee deaths at Guantanamo. The following are the medical examiner determinations of official causes of death:
 
  • Haji Naseem (aka Inayatullah, 37, Afghanistan, suicide (hanging), May 17, 2011
  • Awal Gul, 48, Afghanistan, heart attack, February 1, 2011
  • Muhammad Ahmad Abdalla Salih, 31, Yemen, suicide (hanging), June 1, 2009
  • Abdul Razzak, 69, Afghanistan, colon cancer, December 30, 2007 
  • Abdul Rahman Ma’th al Amri, 34, Saudi Arabia, suicide (hanging), May 30, 2007
  • Yasser Talal al Zahrani, 21, Saudi Arabia, suicide (hanging), June 10, 2006
  • Mana Shaman Allabardi al Tabi, 30, Saudi Arabia, suicide (hanging), June 10, 2006
  • Ali Abdullah Ahmed, 29, Yemen, suicide (hanging), June 10, 2006
 
Joint Task Force Guantanamo continues to provide safe, humane, and lawful care and custody of detainees.  This mission is being performed professionally, transparently, and humanely by the men and women of Joint Task Force Guantanamo.
