by Jerry Harben

Six people affiliated with the Army Medical Department received prestigious awards during the 2088 annual meeting of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. Honored were:

Retired COL John S. Fournier, with the James A. McCallam Award. He served as chief of the Veterinary Corps from 1999 to 2004.

LTC Rodney L. Coldren, with the Gorgas Medal. Coldren has done extensive research into prevention and treatment of malaria. He is disease epidemiology program manager for the Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine.

LTC David Parramore, with the Outstanding Medical Information Management Executive Award. He is chief of information management for Europe Regional Medical Command. As director of warfighter readiness in the office of the chief information officer of the Military Health System, Parramore led efforts to integrate various information management systems used in support of field medicine, and ensure that health-care providers can access all relevant information throughout a patient's care.

MAJ Robert J. Schultz, with the Walter P. McHugh Award. He is chief of medical logistics for Special Operations Command. Schultz has instituted several programs to ensure that medical equipment is maintained and stored so units have it available when it is needed.

MAJ Jeffrey S. Yarvis, with the Uniformed Services Social Worker of the Year Award. Yarvis is assistant professor and director of social work at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He was recognized for research and clinical efforts in treatment of post traumatic stress disorder.
