Thompson Reiterates Flaws of 2010 Health Care Law, Urges Repeal

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson today voted to support H.R. 6079, a full repeal of the President’s 2010 health care law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The bill passed the U.S. House by a vote of 244-185.  

On June 28th, the U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision upheld the ACA as constitutional, ruling that the law's "individual mandate" falls within Congress' power to tax. Following the court’s ruling, Thompson stated: “Regardless of the court’s ruling on the constitutionality of the President’s so-called Affordable Care Act, the law remains just as fundamentally flawed and unaffordable as the day it was signed into law.”

Thompson today during debate over H.R. 6079 delivered floor remarks, in which he highlighted the broken promises made by proponents of the law and reiterated the necessity of its repeal.

“Prior to Congress, I spent nearly three decades as a professional in a non-profit healthcare setting. In health care there is a saying, ‘Do no harm.’ Unfortunately, ObamaCare violates this principle…

“The President promised that his plan would decrease annual premium rates for the average family – they’ve increased. The law creates an employer mandate that provides a perverse incentive for companies to drop their employees from health plans…The Administration insisted that failure to comply with the individual mandate would not result in a tax— well, it’s official. It’s a tax...

“The American people are fed up…Another check was written that could not be cashed. More promises were made that cannot be kept…We must prevent this policy from doing more harm.  We must repeal this law.”
