Colonel Michael S. Burke is the Commander, 21st Medical Group, Peterson Air Base, Colo. He leads a team of more than 500 medical professionals providing healthcare and mission-readiness support for more than 25,000 active duty, retired and family member DoD beneficiaries of the 21st Space Wing, 50th Space Wing, Colorado Springs community and 39 geographically separated units around the globe. Additionally, he ensures the readiness of 350 active duty medics for deployments in support of battlefield and humanitarian missions worldwide. Colonel Burke oversees a $21 million operations budget, a 10-building medical campus geographically distributed across three military installations, medical contingency responses at Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station and an Aerospace Physiology Unit that provides 2,000 chamber sorties for more than 100 agencies per year. The group is also home to the DoD's largest Area Dental Laboratory supporting tri-service and Veterans Affairs dental facilities throughout the continental United States.

Colonel Burke was born in West Chester, Pa. He is a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy with a bachelor's degree in Biology/Aerospace Physiology. He received his master's degree in Healthcare Management from Central Michigan University and Post-Graduate Certificate in Managed Care from Johns Hopkins University. He is a board certified administrator and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
