Commander

CPT Steven Akers, is a Logistics Officer, who has served in a variety of Logistic, Military Police, and Military Intelligence assignments. He is a 2008 graduate of the Logistics Captains' Career Course. He has also earned a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State College.

CPT Akers operational assignments include OEF, OIF III, OIF V, Military Transition Team (MiTT) Logistic advisor in Iraq. He has served as BNS3 3-13th INF Rgt, Fort Jackson South Carolina; 3BDE 3ID Assistant BDE S4, 1-10 FA BN S4, UMO, BMO 3BDE 3ID. 203 FSB Shop Officer, Executive Officer, and Platoon Leader, 3BDE 3ID Fort Benning Georgia.

CPT Akers decorations include two Bronze Star Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, three Iraqi Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Ribbons, CPT Akers is JSTARs Aircrew qualified, and Air Assault qualified.

First Sergeant

1SG Michael Gainey is from Albemarle, NC. He graduated from North Stanly H.S. in June of 1998.

He enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman (11B) in 1998 attending Basic and Advanced Training at Ft. Benning, Ga. His first assignment (1998-2001) was HHC Division Reconnaissance at Hohenfels, Germany, where he served as a RTO, M240 gunner, and team leader.

In March 2002 SFC Gainey joined the US Army Reserve 108th Training Division, Charlotte, NC where he served as a Drill Sergeant Candidate.

In March of 2003 Gainey graduated Primary Leadership Course now known as Warrior Leadership Course.

In July 2003 Gainey was selected to attend Drill Sergeant School at Fort Jackson, SC. In May of 2004 Gainey graduated Drill Sergeant School.

Gainey attended Basic Non Commissioned Officer Course in March 2005 at Camp Blanding, FL.

In September 2006 Gainey was ordered to active duty, and deployed to Salman Pak, Iraq until December 2007. Gainey served as an Iraqi National Police Advisor. After returning from Iraq Gainey served as a Platoon Sergeant for 3/518th C Company in Hickory, NC.

In January 2009 Gainey was called back to active duty to assist in Navy Individual Augmentee Training at Eastover, SC for 22 months. Gainey was a platoon sergeant and also acting First Sergeant during the mission.

While on orders Gainey attended and graduated from Advanced Non Commissioned Officers Course at Ft. Pickett, VA in May of 2009.

In October 2010 Gainey was reassigned to 3/518TH C Company Hickory, NC as a Platoon Sergeant, and then the acting First Sergeant in B Company 3/518TH Hickory, NC.

Gainey is currently the 1SG of C Company 3/13(BCT) at Ft. Jackson, S.C.

His military schools attended include: Primary Leadership Course, Basic Non Commissioned Officer Course, Advanced Non Commissioned Officer Course, Drill Sergeant School, Phase 1 of First Sergeant Course, Level 1 Combative Trainers Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Basic and Advanced Military Transition Team Training, Command Language Program (German), Dragon Weapon Training, Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star with Valor, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (2), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Combat Infantry Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge.
