Hips & Pelvic Ultrasound

Hips:

Hip ultrasound is typically not performed until 2 weeks of age. Diagnostic imaging of the immature hip is performed by Dr. Caruso, Pediatric Radiologist, up to 1 year of age.

Pelvic Ultrasound:

As part of the pelvic ultrasound examination, several pictures are taken using a transvaginal probe. This probe is placed into the vagina in order to obtain the necessary pictures. Patients who have not yet begun menstruation, have not yet been sexually active, or have recently given birth (within 1-2 weeks after delivery) are not expected to undergo the transvaginal portion of the exam. Any patient may refuse this portion of the exam at any time. However, it should be understood that doing so may significantly limit the evaluation.
