Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program
The Peterson Air Force Base Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program has been established to coordinate sexual assault victim care. Upon receipt of a report of sexual assault, the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) will assign a Victim Advocate (VA) to help you obtain necessary services and to provide crisis intervention, referral and ongoing non-clinical support. Support will include providing information on available reporting options and resources so you can make informed decisions about your case. The VA will accompany you, if desired, to investigative interviews, medical examinations and follow-up appointments. Your VA will continue to assist you until you no longer feel a need for support.

SAPR Training is open to all Peterson personnel. Initial SAPR training is ONLY a one-time requirement. Annual SAPR training is due no later than end of each Fiscal Year. In accordance with Department of Defense Instruction 6495.02, para E3.2.1.1, it's MANDATORY training for military members (active duty, guard, reserve) and shall be provided at a minimum to all civilian personnel who supervise military members. First Responder and leadership training and Newcomers Orientation doesn't fulfill this equirement!
Personnel at Peterson should consult their unit training manager to ensure they are compliant with the latest SAPR training.
The SAPR office will also train units at Commander Calls or on designated training days.. |

DoD DEFINITION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
Sexual assault is defined as intentional sexual contact, characterized by use of force, physical threat or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent.
Sexual assault includes rape, nonconsensual sodomy, indecent assault or attempts to commit these acts.
Sexual assault can occur without regard to gender, spousal relationship or the age of the victim.
"Consent" shall not be deemed or construed to mean the failure by the victim to offer physical resistance. Consent is not given when a person uses force, threat of force, coercion or when the victim is asleep, incapacitated or unconscious.

If you have been assaulted:
Go to a safe location away from the attacker.
Call 911 if you are in an emergency situation or need immediate medical attention. Even if you doubt you have any visible physical injuries, you may be at risk for sexually transmitted infections or pregnant.
If you suspect you have been drugged, request that a urine sample be collected.
Preserve all evidence of the assault. Do not shower, bathe, change clothes, brush your teeth, eat or drink anything. Do not straighten up or clean up the crime scene.
Ask the health care provider to conduct a sexual assault forensic exam to preserve forensic evidence.
Write down, tape or record by any other means all the details you can recall about the assault and your assailant.

Talk with a counselor who is trained to assist you with the emotional and physical impacts of sexual assault. Remember, you are not alone...let us help!
