Amnesty

While I recognize that legal immigration is in the long-term interest of the United States, I strongly believe that we must ensure that the borders are secure and discourage illegal immigration by fixing our broken immigration laws. Should Congress consider comprehensive immigration reform legislation that includes outright amnesty provisions during the 113th Congress, I would oppose it.

I am not opposed to citizens of other nations immigrating to the U.S. in an effort to provide a better life for themselves and their families. We are a nation founded upon immigration. In a sense we are all immigrants. That being said, I am a firm believer that this immigration must be conducted by legal means.

By all counts illegal immigration undermines this county’s legal immigration process. There is currently a list of millions of eligible people waiting to be admitted to this country via legal channels; some have been on that list for more than 23 years. By entering this country illegally, illegal immigrants mock those who respect our nation’s sovereignty and legal immigration process.
