Award Title:  Monitoring Drug Epidemics and the Markets that Sustain Them Using ADAM II

Award Description:

This grant is funded under NIJ's Data Resources Program, which supports secondary analysis using National Archive of Criminal Justice Data and other information. This project will study trends in drugs used--specifically marijuana, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine--over time and in relation to drug markets, drug demand, and law enforcement initiatives. Data collected at 10 sites since 2000 under NIJ's Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring (ADAM) Program, and subsequently the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy's ADAM II Program, will be used. These include self-reported information on alcohol and other drug use and market transactions, plus urinalysis confirmation for 10 illegal drugs, collected from male arrestees at booking facilities. Work products include site-level reports to local Chiefs of Police, and project reports and data analysis documentation that will further drugs and crime research, policy and practice. ca/ncf
