3/30/2011 - MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan – Have you done it? 144 Airmen from Misawa AB “did it” by helping local farmers at two strawberry farms in Hachinohe March 28. The fields contained greenhouses to protect the crops from the harsh winter environment and were flattened by the tsunami March 11. Workers removed the plastic and metal frame from each greenhouse and stacked the frame pieces and plastic for trucks to pick up for recycling. The fields contained greenhouses to protect the crops from the harsh winter environment and were flattened by the tsunami March 11. Major Schumann removed pipe and plastic from the strawberry field and stacked it for trucks to pick up for recycling. He was one of 144 Airmen from Misawa AB who attended this workday, which proved to be the highest number to date since the “Misawa Helps” volunteer effort kicked off.
