Governor Earl Ray Tomblin

A native of Logan County, West Virginia, Governor Tomblin received his undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and an M.B.A. from Marshall University. He also attended the University of Charleston. A self-employed businessman and former school teacher, Tomblin has largely dedicated his professional career to public service. He was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1974 and served until 1980, when he was elected to the West Virginia Senate. He holds the distinction of being the state's longest-serving senate president, a position to which he was elected in 1995. Tomblin was named the state's first lieutenant governor in 2000. He began serving as governor in November 2010, when Governor Joe Manchin resigned to complete the unexpired term of U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd. In an October 2011 special election, Tomblin was elected to serve as the state's 35th governor. He was re-elected in November 2012.
