Consortium on Climate Risk in the Urban Northeast

Project Overview

In the northeast urban corridor, transportation, energy, communications, water, and waste systems are highly integrated, so climate risk management needs to be integrated as well. CCRUN's research focuses on helping stakeholders in the major urban areas in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania achieve that integration. 

The three unifying themes of their research within urban areas are coasts, water, and health. There are two additional cross cutting themes. Those are climate and vulnerability and evaluation. Within those themes, CCRUN plans to help stakeholders take advantage of opportunities and improve management and adaptation strategies to reduce vulnerability to climate variability and change.

Select Outputs

• CCRUN has produced a series of downscaled climate projections under different climate change scenarios. These projections include temperature, precipitation, and sea level rise for the three focus cities of Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.

• CCRUN has created a comprehensive guide to climate change in the Northeast. It includes projected changes in temperature and precipitation and then breaks down impacts on specific sectors including transportation, health, coastal communities, water supply, energy, and the regional economy.

• Regional Maps: A collection of maps showing demographics, infrastructure, and climate change projections. These maps can help decision makers understand the different risks and vulnerabilities throughout the region.
