The Relocation Readiness Program Mission

I, R&F supports soldiers, civilians, and their families relocating from installation to installation.

Services include in-processing, out-processing, Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Newcomer's briefings, Sponsorship training, Home buyer, and Re-entry workshops. Welcome packets, worldwide installation information files and Lending Closet are also available.

The Relocation Readiness Program is located at Army Community Service, in the Community Support Center, Building 1520, Room 123. We provide relocation counseling, guidance and planning services for your next move.

The I, R&F provide materials, resources and information for Fort Detrick and the surrounding Frederick, Washington, Franklin, and Adams Counties. Call 301-619-6364 for more information and to register for classes.

Sponsorship Training

e-Sponsorship Training (e-SAT): Training offered to Unit Sponsors.

As a Sponsor, you will be the link to their new unit, installation and new community. This is a very important responsibility as a newcomer's perception of their newly assigned installation is largely based upon first impressions. As a sponsor, you have a direct impact on these impressions. Proactive sponsorship leads to unit cohesiveness and mission success.

Pre-Arrival Support

It is the goal of the Relocation Readiness Program to ensure that Soldiers, civilians, and their family members are provided the information needed to make informed decisions prior to relocating. To that end, the following services are provided. This website includes a wealth of information about the installation to include information on the major units and organizations, master calendar of events, as well as links to other resources for relocating families.

Military OneSource's services are available by phone and online. Military OneSource provides master's level consultants, trained to offer confidential support and practical solutions.

Arrival Support

Welcome to Fort Detrick! A Financial Guide while you settle.

Army personnel arriving at Fort Detrick should first report to their new unit and be met by their sponsor. After hours, arrivals should report to the staff duty noncommissioned officer at Building 1532 Porter Street to sign in.

Once the Soldier reports to his or her unit, the Soldier must come to the Military Personnel Division (MPD) located in the Community Support Center, 1520 Freedman Drive, Room 139A, to pick up the Installation In-processing Checklist. In-processing is conducted each morning except Thursday from 0900-1100. No appointment is required. The sponsor is responsible for escorting the new arrival to the various agencies for in-processing. When reporting to MPD, the Soldier should bring a duty position memorandum, permanent-change-of-station orders, military personnel file, medical, dental, and education records.

Navy personnel in-processing to the Naval Medical Logistics Command External Link: Leaving Fort Detrick Website should report to 1681 Nelson Street upon arrival. After hour arrivals should call 301-619-2047.

Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center (AFMIC) Military personnel in-processing to AFMIC must report to the Military Personnel Office, 1607 Porter Street, upon arrival or call 301-619-3804.

New civilian personnel should report to the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC) located at 1541 Porter Street to in-process, or call 301-619-2247. Hours of operation are 0800-1630.

Family Support

Newcomers' Orientation Briefing

An orientation for all new military, family members, and employees is held quarterly at the Community Activities Center (CAC). During this orientation employees will have the opportunity to meet and be greeted by the Command as well as obtain valuable information about Fort Detrick.

Vehicle Registration

Newly arriving personnel are required to report to the Vehicle Registration Office, 1520 Freedman Drive, Room 134, to obtain a temporary pass for privately owned vehicles, or call 301-619-4580. Hours of operation are 0800-1600.

Sponsor Support

Effective sponsors are actively involved in the arrival process. They help newcomers get settled both in the unit and in the community.

Exceptional Family Member (EFM) Support

Soldiers who have family members enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program should be referred to ACS for information and registration.

The Waiting Family Support Group

The Waiting Family Support Group meets once a month, time and location to be determined. Call 301-619-6364 for more information. This workshop is for those family members whose spouse is deployed or on an unaccompanied tour. The support group serves as a chain of concern for the families left behind.

Re-entry workshop

We offer daily re-entry workshops and counseling during the in-processing hours of 0800-1300. These workshops address logistical, financial and psychological adjustments and issues that often occur when transferees are returning from overseas.

Foreign Spouse Orientation

A Foreign Spouse Orientation is available for all foreign spouses. It serves as a support group to make military life adjustable. We offer a "Welcome to the USA" workshop for all foreigners new to the United States. English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes are available for those with a language barrier.

The Lending Closet

Relocation Readiness Program (RRP) staff operates a Lending Closet located in Community Support Center, 1520 Freedman Drive, that is stocked with household items that newly arrived soldiers and civilians may borrow. The RRP staff provides on-going one-on-one in-processing to newly arrived person to aid and assist with relocation and settling in services.

The Lending Closet, located in Building 1520, offers basic household goods to be loaned on a temporary basis. Items may be borrowed for a maximum of 30 days. The closet can provide non-perishable food items to families during times of emergency.

Pre-Departure Support

Levy/Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Briefings

The Military Personnel Division (MPD) and ACS coordinate mandatory PCS briefings for all Soldiers who are relocating. Soldiers are scheduled to attend a mandatory reassignment briefing within 30 days after being notified of a new assignment. The briefings are conducted every other Wednesday, beginning at 0800, in the Community Support Center, Building 1520. The agenda includes the following briefings: Levy, ACS Relocation Readiness, Transportation, Barquist Medical Clinic, TriCare, Legal, ACS Financial Readiness 1st PCS, and Military Finance Briefings. The Reassignment Section of the MPD is the coordinating agency and can be reached on (301) 619-7311.

Job Search Workshop

The Employment Readiness and Transition Program (ERTP) is designed to assist Soldiers and their family members relocating to and from Fort Detrick seeking employment. It offers a variety of services, workshops and classes. Access the ERTP at the Community Support Center, 1520 Freedman Drive, Room 128.
