Investigative Techniques Workshop / In-Service

This 2-day workshop consists of programs that will benefit the aspiring investigator as well as those currently in the investigative field. The student will learn investigative techniques used during criminal investigations and be able to describe the uses of these techniques. Students will be also be able to identify and/or demonstrate the proper methods to locate, collect, and package evidence, as well as identify current case law and legal issues as they relate to search and seizures, identifying types of searches and how to prepare an affidavit for a search warrant.

Who Should Attend

Qualified applicants must be full-time, sworn law enforcement peace officers.

Eligibility

This training is open to full time, sworn law enforcement officers (especially first line officers and supervisors including patrol officers, detectives, and narcotics officers and their supervisors). State, local, campus and tribal law enforcement personnel are encouraged to attend.

Prerequisites for Attendance

Training locations denoted with a “*” indicate programs set aside for rural law enforcement officers.  Preference for admission into these programs is given to non-federal law enforcement officers or other emergency responders working in rural areas. “Rural” is defined as any area outside of a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), as defined by the Office of Management and Budget; or any jurisdiction inside of a MSA located in a county, borough, parish or land under the jurisdiction of an Indian Tribe with a population of no more than 50,000. 

Non-rural applicants may be admitted on a space-available basis beginning approximately 35 days prior to the program’s start date.

Cost

TUITION-FREE Attendees are responsible for all travel, lodging and meal expenses.
