Saodat Romanova – a laboratory physician at House of Health #5 in Turkmenabat, recalls how just recently, her diagnostic skills have reversed an erroneous and alarming diagnosis. A six-year-old boy from Lebap Velayat, Turkmenistan, was recently taken to his family physician by his parents, who were concerned by their son’s lack of appetite and lethargic behavior.  After being referred to a specialist for consultation, his parents were shocked when they were told by oncologists that their son had leukemia. Baymyrat Korhanov is an experienced teacher of German and English languages at a small school in Yangala Village some 40 kilometers from the capital city Ashgabat. While teaching approaches in the region are usually limited to lecture-style, recently, he has begun introducing interactive methods not only in his own classes, but to the work of other educators as well. Genjim Gala private company was established in 1991 as one of many small-scale egg producing enterprises in the Dashoguz region of northern Turkmenistan. The business was not as profitable as expected and had a number of problems preventing it from being sustainable and competitive. To solve these issues the owner requested technical assistance from the USAID-funded Farmer to Farmer Program on farm management, disease control and prevention, feed production, and meat processing and packaging.
