5/26/2012 - TRANSIT CENTER AT MANAS -- Every week, a member of the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing is selected as the Warrior of the Week. This individual is recognized based on outstanding performance, good conduct, work ethic and most importantly, for a job well done.

Meet the Warrior of the Week -- Airman 1st Class Michael Shipton is a 376 Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron aircraft maintenance apprentice from Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. He is a native of Grove City, Pa.

Here's what Shipton had to say about himself and his deployment.

What do you do on a daily basis at the Transit Center?
I quickly and safely generate aircraft.

Why did you choose to serve in the military?
I chose to serve in the military to honor a family tradition and gain tools to further my education.

What do you enjoy about being at the Transit Center?
I enjoy the opportunity to improve in my career field.

How do you feel about your contributions to the Transit Center mission and current operations in the AOR?
I feel proud of my accomplishments here at the Transit Center and knowing that I have a direct effect in aiding troops on the ground.

Family:
three sisters and two brothers.

Time at the Transit Center: one month.

Time in military: three and one-half years.

Greatest accomplishment:
successfully becoming self-sufficient.

Goals you want to achieve or meet while at the Transit Center?
I would like to learn as much as possible.

Hobbies: hanging out with friends and family.

Favorite movies: Across the Universe and Water Boy.

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her?
My mother is my favorite mentor she showed me that anything is possible through determination.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why?
I would like to spend an hour with Jim Morrison he had very unique thoughts and values.
