What is My Filing Status?

What is My Filing Status: There are five filing statuses: Single, Married Filing Jointly, Married Filing Separately, Head of Household and Qualifying Widow(er) with Dependent Child. Your filing status is used to determine your filing requirements, standard deduction, eligibility for certain credits, and your correct tax. If more than one filing status applies to you, this interview will choose the one that will result in the lowest amount of tax.

Information You Will Need:

  • Citizenship status, marital status, spouse's year of death (if applicable)
  • The amounts that your household members paid towards the cost of keeping up a home

Estimated Completion Time: 5 minutes. However: 5 minutes of inactivity will end the interview and you will be forced to start over.
