Loggerhead Turtle

I spend most of my life swimming in the ocean.
I’m a female turtle, and the only time I come
on land is to lay my eggs.

My life is pretty simple.
I roam around on the bottom of the ocean looking for fun stuff to eat.
I eat lots of different things, but I prefer clams because they taste great!
When I’m not searching for food, I try to avoid getting eaten by TURTLES!
Loggerhead turtles love to eat us, or so I’m told.

We love coming to the beach. It is so relaxing and there are always fun animals to see in the ocean.
Today we will be participating in a “Turtle Nest Viewing” guided tour.

Our son, Junior, is not an early riser, but he needs to take pictures of the turtle nesting habitat for his science project. Unfortunately for Junior and his mother, the tour leaves at the crack of dawn.
Junior really needs a good grade this time; his last science project was not so good.

Fisherman

I’ve been a fisherman for the last 20 years. My father was a fisherman before me, and his father before him. It’s a hard way to make a living, but it’s what I love. It’s important to me to keep fishing, so I can provide for my family.
Over the years we’ve learned new ways of fishing to avoid catching turtles. If fishermen catch turtles by accident, we might not be allowed to fish where and when the fishing is best.  So, I’d rather change my gear or fish in a different place to avoid catching turtles.

I LOVE my job as a Turtle Nest Tour Guide, but I start working at dawn!  I have to start early because that’s when the last of the turtles and hatchlings can be seen. Loggerhead turtles nest and hatch at night.
I love volunteering to help protect the loggerhead turtles on the beach.
The nesting turtles and the hatchlings are so cute, but often people visiting the beach are not aware of how much they hurt turtles.

It’s my job to tell them the DOs and DON’Ts while spending time on the beach, so visitors don’t harm turtles and their habitat.

Politician

I’m a politician, and it is my job to listen to different points of view and know the facts.

Policy making isn’t easy.
There are many difficulties deciding what to do and implementing a management plan.

I work on a wide variety of issues, including the protection of threatened and endangered species, like loggerhead sea turtles.
