Thomas Karl, senior scientist at the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., has been honored by the Climate Institute for his work in tracking climate trends in the United States.
Karl is a well-known and widely quoted scientist whose work in climate change has been published in scientific journals around the world. He is currently senior scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's climatic data center, which houses the world's largest active archive of weather data and is an important resource for climate information.
Karl received the award for scientific achievement at the Climate Institute's tenth anniversary celebration at the U.S. Botanic Gardens in Washington on Sept. 4. Earlier in the day, Karl participated in a symposium on climate change on Capitol Hill and presented a talk entitled, "What Signs of Climate Change are Visible in the U.S. Climate Record?"
Karl lives in Asheville with his family.
