Mission:
The DCI Mission is to assure compliance with federal regulations for the protection of human research subjects and for the responsible use of animals in medical research and training. The DCI facilitates and supports the entire process of research approval including research proposal preparation, submission, review and monitoring of approved research, by providing program administration, education and consultation for all research activities at DDEAMC and the nine MTFs and clinics covered under its Assurances. The DCI Mission supports graduate medical education (GME), graduate dental education (GDE), and other professional health education, ultimately facilitating improvements to health care and the introduction of new technology.

The DCI consists of two sections:

  1. Research Regulatory Compliance Office (RRCO), 7th Alley, Building 38711
  2. Research and Training Laboratory (RTL), 7th Alley, Building 38705

DCI RRCO primary objectives are:

  1. Maintain a Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and provide policy, education and training, consultation, protocol reviews and ongoing monitoring for research at nine military treatment facilities (MTFs) covered under the DDEAMC Research Assurances.
  2. Provide regulatory guidance to the following committees as required by federal regulations:
    1. DDEAMC Institutional Review Board (IRB)
      * NOTE: The IRB also functions as the Scientific Review Committee and the HIPAA Privacy Board for research related issues.
    2. DDEAMC Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
    3. DDEAMC Publications Clearance
  3. Actively promote GME, GDE and other professional health education by supporting clinical and basic research for all DDEAMC personnel.

DCI RTL primary objectives are:
Research

  • Conduct multi-disciplinary military-relevant research to further Army Medicine and address Warfighter needs
  • Provide guidance and support for the development of novel research endeavors
  • Promote the highest level of professional standards in the conduct of research
Education
  • Support GME and continuing medical education (CME) programs
  • Provide an academic milieu conducive to retention and recruitment of personnel
  • Foster an atmosphere of academic inquiry
Training
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructional Surgical Skill Practicum (ATLS)
  • Emergency Medicine Resuscitation Procedure Lab (ER)
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Microsurgical Training Lab
