The Small Grants Program at US Embassy Kampala consists of 3 small-scale development funds.  The goal of these funds is to assist and encourage communities to develop initiatives aimed at broadening civil society, developing democratic principles, protecting human rights, improving basic socio-economic conditions, decreasing the impact of the global AIDS pandemic and creating opportunities for a brighter future for orphans and vulnerable children.

Programs

The Small Grants Office oversees three separate funds:

  1. Community Grants Program to Combat HIV/AIDS: Provides support to people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS as well as orphans and vulnerable children.
  2. Ambassador’s Special Self Help Fund: Provides funding to help community-based organizations launch small-scale sustainable development projects for income generation and quality of life improvements.
  3. Democracy and Human Rights Fund: Provides support for activities that promote political pluralism and human and civil rights.

Together, these programs provide assistance in building a healthier and more productive society, achieving more accountable governance, and generating broad economic opportunities in Uganda.
