  1. I've had some questions today about the Violence Against Women Act. I voted FOR the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization when it passed the House over seven months ago. It’s unacceptable that Senate leadership chose to play politics with women’s lives and safety for that entire time, rather than reauthorize this important law. I’ve been meeting with New Mexico constituents on this issue, and they feel as I do, that this law is important and needs reauthorization. I call on the Senate to put politics aside and approve it now.
  2. Meeting this weekend with Admiral Sam Locklear, commander, U.S. Pacific Command. To the right is my good friend Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma.

  3. I am saddened by the passing of Rita Neal, a great woman in the Lovington community. Rita will be missed, but her memory will live on through the lives she touched. Rita’s sons are in my thoughts and prayers.
  4. About to go on the air in Hobbs! Tune in to KIXN and KZOR in the next half-hour to hear live updates from Washington.
  5. The 113th Congress will be sworn in today. I'm honored to continue representing southern New Mexico.
  6. The House is in session again today in Washington--standing by for the Senate and the President to act on any of the bills the House has already passed to avoid sequestration and the fiscal cliff. See the video below for information on what it means for you if they don't take action:

  8. To all of those who have called or emailed to let me know that they are praying for me, thank you. Prayer is so important in our daily lives, and your prayers of support and encouragement lift me up and keep me going.
  9. As we near the fiscal cliff, a few links that may be helpful: See my "whiteboard" explanations of the fiscal cliff at http://www.youtube.com/nmstevepearce, and weigh in on what wasteful spending YOU would change at http://pearce.house.gov/debt.
  10. Christmas is always a time for me to draw my family close, celebrate old traditions, and enjoy time together. And, most importantly, it’s a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord and savior. I hope that for you, this holiday is filled with peace, joy, and truly special moments.

Cynthia and I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
  11. Cynthia and I are saddened by the loss of Katherine Ingold—a dear friend and a great New Mexican. Katherine touched everyone she met, and will be missed in her community. Norman, and the rest of the Ingold family, are in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. A follow-up to my earlier video from today--here, I discuss what it means for you if the Senate and the White House don't act on any of the proposals the House has already put forward to avert the Fiscal Cliff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxjFe74ua6s&feature=youtu.be
  13. Cynthia and I are saddened by the loss of Jeannie Cone. Jeannie was a strong spiritual leader in New Mexico, an amazing woman, and a great example. Our prayers are with the Cone family today.
  14. All the talk about the "fiscal cliff" can be confusing. If you're hoping to understand the debate a little better, watch my brief explanation here: http://youtu.be/SzHm6UUfB4I
  15. On the air this morning--if you're in Alamogordo, you can catch the end of my visit with KRSY, and then in a few minutes, tun into KALH for more info from DC. Later, I'll be live with Cool FM, and then KSVP in the Artesia area.
