'Chalk' it up to luck, AFROTC Cadet receives rare opportunity

Amanda Heller, an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet from the University of Iowa, was recently chosen from over 150 Iowa cadets to support President Barack Obama in his recent trip to Iowa City. Cadet Heller was selected to place the wheel chalks around Air Force One’s nose landing gear. This task is a symbolic gesture welcoming the President to his destination and ensuring the aircraft does not shift while parked. Amanda, a future Air Force officer and aspiring Office of Special Investigations agent, spent half the day with the support agencies not only learning her duties with Air Force One, but also learning about the responsibilities of those who support the President and what it takes to become part of this multiagency team. Cadet Heller is slated to graduate this May with a degree in Anthropology. (Courtesy photo)
