Pearsall AFJROTC to visit Air Force Academy, sing at NCAA hockey game

The Pearsall, Texas High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet Chorale will travel to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 25-27. 'Chalk' it up to luck, AFROTC Cadet receives rare opportunity

Amanda Heller, an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet from the University of Iowa, was recently chosen from over 150 Iowa cadets to support President Barack Obama in his recent trip to Iowa City. Cadet Heller was selected to place the wheel chalks around Air Force One’s nose landing gear. This task is a symbolic gesture welcoming the President to his destination and ensuring the aircraft does not shift while parked. Amanda, a future Air Force officer and aspiring Office of Special Investigations agent, spent half the day with the support agencies not only learning her duties with Air Force One, but also learning about the responsibilities of those who support the President and what it takes to become part of this multiagency team. Cadet Heller is slated to graduate this May with a degree in Anthropology. (Courtesy photo)

Clarkson University Potsdam Runners participate in 15th USAF Marathon

Clarkson University’s Potsdam Runners Team members Lt. Col. J.C. Sorensen, Cadet Timothy Sick Cadet Ryan Carr, Cadet Matthew Choiniere, Staff Sgt. Kevin Alexander, Cadet Eric Lipski, Cadet Brian Hume, Cadet Amanda Brewer, Cadet Nicole Brewer, Cadet Cody Stocker, Ms. Casey Lupini and Cadet Justin Harrington participated in the 15th Annual United States Air Force Marathon held Sept. 17th at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Of the more than 4,500 participants, Cadet Timothy Sick completed his half marathon in 1:20:01, finishing 24th overall and was the number one Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet. AFJROTC Cadet receives Air Force Gold Medal of Valor

Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet Maj. Monica Pena received the Air Force Gold Medal of Valor during a visit by Maj. Gen. (ret.) John Jay Closner, former commander of the Air Force Reserve, April 7. Cadet Maj. Monica Pena was recognized for her actions on Feb. 22, when she saved the lives of three people. While in Harlingen Texas, she supervised a team of cadets tasked to retrieve personal equipment from a Harlingen School District vehicle. Returning from this assignment, Cadet Pena witnessed a car rapidly approaching her team, instantly realizing the vehicle would strike them, she pushed two of three cadets out of the way and placed herself in front of the moving car, shielding the third and taking the brunt of the impact, saving their lives. The Franklin County High School United States Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Detachment TN-20061, in Winchester, Tenn. recently participated in the fourth-annual Teens for Jeans drive. The cadets showcased their core value of "Service before Self" by collecting and donating 3,692 jeans, the most collected in the United States by an individual school. The ‘Teens for Jeans’ drive is a way for teens to provide homeless teenagers with clothing and is sponsored by a popular clothing company. More than 540,000 pairs of jeans were collected throughout the U.S. and approximately 1,700 schools participated. (Courtesy photo)
