The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
The Embassy urges all American citizens, even those visiting Mali for a short time, to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). In the event of an emergency, the Embassy will provide information and other critical assistance to American citizens.
Enrollment is the only way to guarantee that the Embassy is aware of your presence in the country and is able to contact you and assist you in such circumstances.
Americans who provide an email address when they enroll will receive the Consular Warden Messages by email.
American citizens, who enroll in STEP, may also choose to receive SMS alerts from the Consular Section. For more information please click here.
How to Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
If you are an American citizen living or traveling in Mali, the U.S. State Department strongly encourages you to provide your contact information tothe U.S. Embassy Bamako by enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
If you have not enrolled in the program, please create an account at https://travelregistration.state.gov. When you enroll, make sure you sign up as a long-term traveler even though you plan to stay in Mali less than six months. This will ensure that your information is transferred to our local database and we can contact you via e-mail.
