Coast Survey has four divisions
The Hydrographic Surveys Division manages hydrographic, bathymetric, and oceanographic survey activities, including data acquisition and processing in support of the suite of NOAA’s nautical charts.
The Marine Chart Division updates and maintains over 1000 nautical charts, covering 3.4 million square nautical miles of U.S. coastal waters, the Great Lakes, and some U.S. territories. These charts are available in both paper and electronic format.
The Navigation Services Division works directly with marine transportation stakeholders to support commercial and recreational navigation. They deploy mobile response team to survey ports and near-shore waterways, searching for dangers to navigation.
The Coast Survey Development Laboratory develops and improves cartographic, hydrographic, and oceanographic systems. This division helps to provide products and services for the coastal marine community, to support navigation and protect the coast. |
