General Information

The Information Resource Center at the U.S. Embassy aims to serve those who, in connection with their work, need information about the United States Government's foreign and domestic policies; political and legislative developments; and historical, social and cultural issues. Within these subject areas, the Information Resource Center's experienced staff can help inquirers to develop detailed and extensive information, or assist in identifying appropriate information sources to contact in the U.S. Furthermore, the IRC is now part of a vast virtual library that contains hundreds of thousands of full-text records available to our patrons upon request on varied areas. In addition, a quick reference service is provided to cover postal addresses, email addresses, telephone and fax numbers of governmental or private organizations, simple statistics, biographical information on prominent persons and other matters of general interest.

Research: Staff research services available to Bolivian print and broadcast media, government officials, researchers and academics.

Inquiries: If you need information about the U.S., send your inquiry to lpzirc@state.gov. Depending on the difficulty, your inquiry will be answered within 48 hours. Many of the frequently asked questions about the U.S. are answered on the Department of State's official site.

Virtual Library: The IRC provides free access to its subscribers to 1) the new Virtual Library eLibraryUSA, which includes thousands of publications in English and Spanish on academic areas, the environment, youth oriented resources, and thousands of e-books!!!, and 2) A small collection of reference books about the U.S. To ask for access, simply write to lpzirc@state.gov.

Visitors: The IRC is open to researchers. Government officials, journalists, academics and other serious researchers wishing to visit the Information Resource Center to use any of the materials held must make an appointment by email first.

Please note: 1) The IRC DOES NOT PROVIDE information about Bolivia. Non Bolivian residents should contact the Bolivian Embassy in their country for such information. Answers to many frequently asked questions about Bolivia can be found on Bolivia-usa.org; 2) The IRC DOES NOT PROVIDE information about visas to the U.S. To ask for consular information click on Visas.

The Center's office hours are: 14.30-17.30, Monday - Friday, by appointment, excluding American and Bolivian public holidays.
