Men of African Descent and Carcinoma of the Prostate Consortium
The Men of African Descent and Carcinoma of the Prostate (MADCaP) Consortium is collaborating on epidemiologic studies to address the high burden of prostate cancer among this population. These investigators are interested in understanding the complex multifactorial causes of prostate cancer etiology and outcomes among men of African ancestry worldwide.
Formed in 2007, the consortium includes investigators from the United States, United Kingdom, Africa and the Caribbean, who have cohort or case-control studies on prostate cancer among men of African ancestry.
The investigators share common interests in studying health disparities, underserved populations, and the role that genetic and non-genetic factors play in the disparities. One important aim is to validate and extend findings on genomic regions that have been associated with prostate cancer risk in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using a large sample of participants from the studies of consortium members.
Participation in the MADCaP Consortium is open to all investigators who have appropriate studies and biospecimens. EGRP is facilitating development of the Consortium.
