Holly Grason Receives APHA Distinguished Service Award

The APHA Maternal and Child Health Section named Holly Grason as recipient of the 2012 "Distinguished Service to the Section and Profession" award. Each year the APHA Sections recognize select members for their exceptional work in their particular areas of public health. Martha Slay Wingate Receives 2012 Loretta P. Lacey Award

In this webinar, staff from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau and faculty from both University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Washington describe a new learning portal that facilitates use of existing open-access training, organized in areas consistent with nationally endorsed public health and MCH leadership competencies. Learn how to use the Navigator in academic programs to enhance the skills of students, supplement class content, and extend your capabilities to provide continuing education opportunities. Join us for a tour of this new website and a discussion about its applicability in academic settings.

The Maternal and Child Health Bureau's Training Branch is developing a 2012-2020 National Plan for MCH Training that will include MCH Training grantee specific objectives and strategies applicable to a range of organizations that serve MCH populations.
Recommendations on draft goals and objectives for the plan developed by the National Strategic Plan for Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Training Work Group are now available for comment on the MCH Training Strategic Plan 2012-2020 website .
Please explore the comments web site to learn more about:
- Background information on the context, purpose, and process for developing the plan
- The national strategic plan workgroup's recommendations on the Draft Goals and Broad Strategies of the plan
- Role of public, non-profit private and family partnerships in shaping and implementing this plan
- Feedback questions regarding specific input the Training Branch is particularly interested in receiving via your comments

Sleep in Infants, Children, Adolescents, and Pregnant Women

The six national Pediatric Pulmonary Training Programs and the MCH Library at Georgetown University have released a new set of resource guides about sleep and sleep disorders in infants, children, adolescents, and pregnant women. Mary H. Wagner, M.D. and Susan Chauncey Horky, L.C.S.W., M.S.W. at the University of Florida PPC directed the collaborative effort.
Sleep in Infants, Children, Adolescents, and Pregnant Women: Knowledge Path can be used by health professionals, researchers, and community advocates to learn more about sleep, to improve diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, for program development, and to locate training resources and information to answer specific questions.
