Local Governance Program

Duration: 
October 2012 - September 2017

The objective of this program is to assist Government of Tajikistan in their ongoing process of implementing the 2009 Law on Local Self-Government in Towns and Townships, with particular focus on fiscal decentralization and housing and communal services reform. On a sub-national level, the project aims to improve local governments’ capacity in delivering communal services to citizens, particularly clean drinking water. Development through Regional Cooperation

Kazakhstan Judicial Independence Program

American Bar Association will implement a four year program in Judicial Independence area.  The overarching goal of this program is to strengthen the independence of Kazakhstan’s Judiciary in partnership with the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, building on that institution’s political will to build public trust and achieve greater alignment with internationally-recognized standards of accountability andperformance, thus improving rule of law in this country. Ak Zhol: The Path to Peace through Prosperity

Through the Ak Zho lproject, CSSC will address the divisions between people across seven villages in three regions of southern Kyrgyzstan by:

  • increasing understanding, providing training and facilitated discussionsfor positive conflict resolution,
  • encouraging inter-communal cooperation to increase village economic resources for the duration of the project and beyond 

Kabar Ordo Program

Duration: 
January 2012 - January 2014

This program works to prevent the re-emergence of violent conflict in southern Kyrgyzstan through more comprehensive and accessible conflict-sensitive reporting and early warning analysis, including: 

  • Supporting the dissemination of conflict-sensitive information and analysis of local conflict trends
  • Increasing public awareness and understanding of collaborative approaches to inter-ethnic conflict dynamics
