Intent Concepts and Tasks
Intent: Inspections will reinforce the importance of combat readiness, evaluate the critical areas essential for mission performance, and serve as a tool for commands to assess their units.

Concepts: Conduct short and no-notice inspections in order to minimize wasted preparation time and provide an accurate assesment of day-to-day readiness. Inspections will:
  • Respect and uphold the commander's authority and foster a climate of trust and confidence.
  • Focus on unit mission/Commanding General's Inspection Program.
  • Be positive and provide productive learning experiences for those personnel inspected.
  • Attempt to identify the root cause of problems, particularly those which are beyond the ability of the commander to solve.
  • Include follow-ups and resolution of problems that are beyond the ability of the inspected command/unit to solve.

Tasks: Inspections Division will:
  • Inspect, biennially, within the Unit Inspection Program (UIP), those independent units and activities that are not in the operational or administrative chain of command of a major subordinate commander (MSC). Through inspection, ensure each unit is complying with Commandant of the Marine Corps procedures and is accomplishing its assigned mission, tasks and functions.
  • Maintain an oversight and follow-up program to correct findings reported in the IP inspection reports, and issues raised in the annual inspection reports of the MSC.
  • Review items of special interest to the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
  • Recognize individuals and units for excellent demonstrated during inspections.
