Dr. Johnson is the medical director of Health Equity & Quality Services at Highmark Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh. As medical director, Johnson leads Highmark’s efforts to reduce racial and ethnic health care disparities among Highmark members through clinical interventions and improvements in health literacy and health-plan cultural competency.

Dr. Johnson has worked in the managed care industry for over fifteen years, prior to which she practiced pediatrics and adolescent medicine in a variety of public and private settings. She previously served as a senior medical consultant for two national quality improvement initiatives by the Center for Health Care Strategies, including Improving Health Care Quality for Racially and Ethnically Diverse Populations (2006) and Improving Managed Care for Children with Special Needs (2004).

She is certified in Health Care Quality Management by the American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physicians, Inc. In addition, Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Johnson earned her A.B. degree from Harvard University, her M.D. at the Pennsylvania State University School of Medicine, and her M.P.H. from Ohio State University.
