Rear Admiral Michael J. Dumont


Rear Adm. Dumont is a native of Brunswick, Maine, and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served more than five years on active duty as an Army aviator and paratrooper in a U.S. Rapid Deployment Force. He held positions as an aviation company executive officer, flight platoon leader in the Middle East, and a Task Force executive officer in Central America. Upon leaving the Army in 1990, he affiliated with the U.S. Navy Reserve as a naval aviator.

Initially serving as a division officer with Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron (Light) 74, Dumont was later assigned to Helicopter Combat Support Special Squadron Four in Norfolk, Va., where he served in a variety of assignments, including squadron operations officer, maintenance officer, executive officer, and commanding officer. In subsequent assignments he commanded the Navy Reserve unit of USS George Washington (CVN 73); the Navy Detachment at Site-R; the Navy Reserve unit of OPNAV N3/N5; and the Joint Reserve Unit of the U.S. Military Delegation to the NATO Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium.

Dumont has also served as special assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe (SACEUR) and Commander, U.S. European Command. Upon completion of this assignment, he served as chief of staff, Office of the U.S. Defense Representative to Pakistan, followed by service as the deputy chief of staff for Stability Operations at the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command in Kabul, Afghanistan. He has served combat tours in Central America, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Maine, Dumont holds a Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He also holds an M.S. degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College where he was a distinguished graduate in the Class of 2008. He is also a graduate of the Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course and the Combined Force Maritime Component Commander Flag Officer Course.
