Rear Admiral (Select) David Pimpo


Rear Adm. (select) Pimpo assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Land and Maritime, Columbus, July 2, 2012. As commander, he oversees the end-to-end integration of DLA’s Land and Maritime Supply Chains delivering repair parts to all Military Services. He directs the efforts of more than 3,000 associates at 52 locations worldwide, to include seven detached DLA Depot Level Reparable and Supply Storage and Distribution units; meeting the supply requirements at Army Depots, Naval Shipyards, Marine Corps Logistics Centers and deployed units. DLA Land and Maritime’s core functions include purchasing materiel, monitoring inventory levels, maintaining technical data, and assuring quality conformance of over 2.1 million spare and repair parts. In 2011, DLA Land and Maritime sales exceeded $5 billion and its procurements were $3.9 billion.

Pimpo is a native of Strongsville, Ohio. He was commissioned in the Navy Supply Corps after attending the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R. I., and the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1986. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Darden Business School at the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the Wharton Business School Executive Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

His other shore assignments include: deputy commander for fleet logistics operations, Naval Supply Systems Command, Mechanicsburg, Pa. ; deputy director, Standing Joint Force Headquarters, United States Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base; assistant force supply officer for Commander, Naval Air Forces; military deputy for Supply Systems and Policy, Commander, Naval Air Forces; director of Aviation Support Systems and, later, director of the Aircraft Engine Program, Naval Inventory Control Point, Philadelphia; flag aide to Director, Defense Logistics Agency; and Navy acquisition contracting officer with the AH-1W Cobra team, Naval Air Systems Command.

Pimpo's sea tours include: supply officer, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) during her maiden deployment; assistant supply officer, USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) during her maiden deployment; disbursing and sales officer and, later, supply officer, USS Knox (FF 1052).

Pimpo is designated as both a naval aviation and surface warfare supply corps officer. His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3).
