Rear Admiral Brett C. Heimbigner


Rear Adm. Heimbigner is currently assigned as the director of Intelligence, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. 

Born and raised in Seattle, Wash., Heimbigner is a 1987 graduate of the University of Washington and a 2002 graduate of the Naval War College.

Heimbigner’s operational tours include Attack Squadron 94 (A-7 Corsairs) embarked aboard USS Enterprise, Carrier Air Wing Seven as the wing intelligence officer aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), Navy Special Warfare Development Group as the director of intelligence (N2), and Joint Special Operations Command deputy J2 and acting J2. He deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq as a special operations task force J2 on multiple occasions between 2004 and 2009. 

Heimbigner’s shore tours consist of commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe as an intelligence watch officer, Attack Squadron 128 (A-6 Intruders)/Medium Attack Weapons School Pacific as an instructor, European Command’s Joint Analysis Center as an operations officer, the Joint Chiefs of Staff J2J Directorate, chief of Naval Operations N2 Irregular Warfare and finally as the commander, Joint Intelligence Command Central under U.S. Central Command.

Heimbigner’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation (two awards), and the Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign medals along with many unit and personal citations.
