As we approach the end of December, I find myself looking back at the year that was. I know it sounds cliché, but I can hardly believe how quickly this year has passed. I feel as if just yesterday, standing among the crowd on the National Mall, my friends and I observed President Obama take the oath of office, a historic moment watched by individuals around the world.


A few days later, I joined colleagues in greeting Hillary Rodham Clinton upon her arrival to the State Department in Washington, DC as the 67th U.S. Secretary of State. Secretary Clinton soon gathered…

Question of the Week: What International Event of 2009 Left the Greatest Impact on U.S. Foreign Policy? Why?

As we approach the end of 2009, perhaps it’s time to reflect back on an eventful and noteworthy year for U.S. foreign policy. 2009 began with the appointment of Hillary Rodham Clinton as the 67th U.S. Secretary of State. Since her appointment, Secretary Clinton has visited 44 countries during 17 international trips, traveling 206,799 miles. During those trips, Secretary Clinton attended several important events and addressed many issues critical to U.S. foreign policy.

President Obama To Host Town Hall in Shanghai

The President's town hall begins at 11:45 p.m. EST on November 15. Be sure to tune in at Whitehouse.gov/live.

Updated: Watch the President's town hall with Chinese youth on Whitehouse.gov.

President Obama will have a town hall meeting with Chinese youth in Shanghai, China. The event is planned to start Monday, November 16 at 12:45 p.m. local time in Shanghai, which means late Sunday night in Washington, DC at 11:45 p.m. EST.

The Russian Federation hosted the very successful First Ministerial Conference on Global Road Safety, November 19-20 in Moscow. Topped of with a speech by President Medvedev, who cited road safety as a major health threat to his nation, and called for halfing mortality and morbidity from road crashes as a national priority.

Although it was cold outside, inside the hall a fire was lit by the determination of enthusiastic participants calling for greater collaboration and concerted international action to address the full gamut of global road safety…

One Small Step, One Giant Leap

There was certain buzz in the air. Everyone in Tripoli and beyond knew that something big was going to happen. In fact it was something bigger than big, it was the World Premiere of the Libyan Space Camp Documentary, “One Small Step, One Giant Leap.”

In August 2009, the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli sent twenty-four Libyan high school students to attend the NASA Space Camp at the Advanced Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama. The students represent the first group from North Africa to attend U.S. Space Camp and only the second group from the Arab world since 1982. A professional Libyan film crew captured…
