The FMC and You.
Begun in mid-2011, the establishment and development of the Franconia Military Community (FMC) reflects a command leadership initiative to strengthen, support and enhance mission accomplishment and quality of life for all members of our Army Team in the Franconia (Franken) area of Germany. Its purpose is to integrate, and in some aspects, consolidate the isolated communities of USAG Ansbach, USAG Bamberg, and USAG Schweinfurt (See Map) into a single, stronger community with a shared identity, shared opportunities, and shared resources. While core members of the FMC are all of our active US military personnel, civilian employees, and their families, who live, work, or play in each garrison, we also welcome our NATO teammates and our valued government and community partners in our local cities and counties.
The value of the FMC, both individually and organizationally, is two-fold. First, as knowledge and understanding of the FMC grows, community members will find themselves with more quality of life options. This includes a greater variety of off duty activities such as opportunities to engage in a wider variety of recreational and entertainment events. For example, an FMC member in Ansbach may attend a concert in Schweinfurt or Bamberg, or a BOSS event in any of the garrisons. A frequent FMC wide activity is outdoor recreation trips that can take travelers from any of the three garrisons.
The second value of the FMC is shared resources for organizational mission accomplishment. While all three garrisons are medium sized garrisons by themselves, together they form one of the largest, most operationally active, military communities in Germany, with an ARFORGEN tempo unmatched in the rest of USAREUR. This holds true for the resource pool managed by these three garrisons as well. Mission support that exceeds the capability of one garrison staff will rarely exceed the capability of the entire FMC resource pool. The USAG Ansbach garrison commander, who is dual-hatted as the FMC Commander, is continuously looking for ways to provide excellence in support to mission units and families by making all FMC resources available for any activity, regardless of which garrison it is on. His leadership and teamwork motto is "The strength of the wolf is in the pack". From a mission perspective, this results in a FMC wide garrison organizational focus that ensures each Soldier and family member has the full resources of the FMC in support.
As an FMC member, you fit in perfectly. The FMC offers each person many expanded opportunities that can be taken advantage of by becoming aware of where and when they are offered. In an attempt to make this information available, each garrison website links to each other and they share recreational and travel events on their calendars. In addition, each FMC garrison encourages and supports active participation in all their programs by members from any garrison. The most effective method of communication in the FMC, like in all communities, is word of mouth between unit members, co-workers, families, friends, and neighbors. Pass the word - be part of the FMC!
