Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit graduates 2nd class

Nineteen members of the 2nd graduation class at the 440th's Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit are all smiles after completing 27 days of rigorous training. Now certified as flight nurses and medical technicians, many of these Airmen will soon deploy to forward operating locations joining other aeromedical teams providing medical care to wounded soldiers. Fayetteville Girl Scout Troop visits AEFTU

As the members of Girl Scout Troop 3319 look on, ISTAN, the human like simulator at the Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit's classroom, starts to experience breathing problems. The American Red Cross certified the Girl Scouts (right to left) Emily, Amalia, Stephanie, Aylin, and Ashleigh in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation procedures and they immediately recognized the abnormal breathing and erratic heart rhythms typical of a patient in stress (U.S. photo by Jerry Green)

Fayetteville Girl Scout Troop visits AEFTU

Girl Scouts, Ashleigh and Aylin rush to the front of the C-130 cargo compartment in reaction to a fire report. Instructors from the Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit provided instruction demonstrated procedures used to extinquish the simulated fire. This type of realistic training is the same instruction given to the students at the AEFTU. Fayetteville Girl Scout Troop visits AEFTU

Members of Girl Scout Troop 3319 visited the Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit, March 3, 2011. The Girl Scouts, ages 11-14, received a close up look at the unique training going on at the AEFTU. The tour started in the classroom with the ISTAN manikin demonstration and the interaction that AEFTU students have with the realistic medical simulator. Maj. Lorie O' Daniel, (left) a flight nurse from the 446th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron based at Joint Base Lewis- McChord Wash. provided the information to the Scout Troop. Maj. Gen. Rubeor and Maj. Gen. Farris visit Pope's AEFTU

On Feb. 22, 2011, the 22nd Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. James Rubeor, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga, and Maj. Gen. Wallace Farris, Director Air, Space, and Information Operations, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga., visited the Aeromedical Evacuation Formal Training Unit at Pope Field. The AEFTU Commander Col. Martha Soper, showed the generals how the C-130 training aircraft referred to as the 'hulk' is used to train students attending the AEFTU course. "The C-130 hulk is one of the best teaching aids we have in our instruction syllabus," said Colonel Soper. "We instruct emergency procedures and practice uploads of ambulatory and litter-bound patients on-site. This airframe increases our training capabilities and adds realism to the course.” The AEFTU’s latest class is due to graduate early March 2011. Twenty students, class 11-01, graduated November 19, 2010 from the AEFTU class at Pope Field. Receiving certificates were six active duty, thee Guard, and 11 Reserve Airmen. Stan, short for standard man, is programed to demonstrate the unique situations aeromedical technicians encounter on their missions. Right now, the computer monitor shows that Stan has a normal heartbeat and breathing rate and blood pressure is okay. ROTC cadets tour Pope Field, N.C.
