*Webinar: Water Immersion for Labor and Birth; A Critical Tool for Birth

In this presentation you will learn about the use of water for labor and birth.  We will discuss the history of water immersion, as well as the physics principles which underlie the therapeutic effects of hydrotherapy.  Using known evidence based approaches we will discuss the risks, benefits, and appropriate selection of hydrotherapy candidates.  Historically water has been used therapeutically for centuries during labor and birth but, practitioners have not always recognized the scientific rationale to support the practice.  We will discuss recommendations and the criteria for using hydrotherapy policies which will facilitate those attempting to begin a hydrotherapy program.

*Coffee Shop Discussion: Diabetes Orals, Insulin, and Injectables

During this coffee shop chat we will discuss how different types of oral medications act to improve the blood sugar for a person with diabetes.  We will also discuss how patients taking oral medications may have to transition to insulin.  Additionally we will discuss the perception of taking insulin and the fears associated with using needles to take insulin.  We will discuss potential side effects of orals, insulins, and injectables. We will also focus on how injectables work and how they can be combined with other diabetes medications to improve blood sugar and help patients lose weight.  Attendees will be able to ask questions about how to look at blood sugar trends and evaluate effectiveness of medication schedule.

When a patient presents with a bleeding disorder, how should dental practitioners proceed to manage the complexity of the case?  This course will provide dental professionals with an overview for managing patients with bleeding and clotting disorders.  Specifics of this course include: basic physiology of the hemostatic system; common bleeding disorders and their etiologies; requisite laboratory testing; and current evidence based guidelines for the purpose of developing individualized treatment plans for such patients.
