Lieutenant Colonel Justin Smith is the Commander, 187th Maintenance Group, 187th Fighter Wing, Montgomery, Alabama. In this capacity, he ensures the Wing's 24 F-16C/D aircraft and his 500+ personnel from over 20 career fields are capable of deploying worldwide. He is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all maintenance, munitions, and weapons activities in the Wing.

Lieutenant Colonel Smith graduated from the University of Alabama in 1994, and was commissioned through Det10, AFROTC. Upon commissioning, he was assigned to the 19th Air Refueling Wing, Robins Air Force Base, GA. He led 2 Production Elements, a Sortie Generation Flight, and a Logistics Operations Flight supporting the Wing's KC-135R aircraft. He then was selected as the Maintenance Supervisor of the C-141 "Bluesuiter" Maintenance Unit, performing field and depot level maintenance on C-141B aircraft as they underwent PDM at the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center. In August 1998 he was assigned to the Directorate of Logistics, Air National Guard Readiness Center, National Guard Bureau, Washington DC. During his 10 year tour at the NGB, he served at the Action Officer, Division Chief, and Directorate levels. As an Action Officer, he managed the ANG's fleet of over 500 aircraft to include the C-130, HC-130, HH-60, EC-130, KC-135, C-5, C-141, and C-17 aircraft. In 2003, Lt Col Smith was selected as the Chief of the Logistics Readiness Division. His duties and responsibilities included managing ANG Logistics and Maintenance UTCs, sourcing ANG Logistics/Maintenance lines in the AEF, implementing the ANG Maintenance Standardization and Evaluation Program (MSEP), and overseeing the ANG's Maintenance and Logistics Readiness Analysis functions. In 2006, he was re-assigned assigned as the Chief, Inspections and Analysis Division, where he expanded the role of the MSEP in to the ANG Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Program, inspecting 88 Maintenance Groups and 88 Logistics Readiness Squadrons on a periodic basis. In 2007, he was appointed as the Chief of Staff, ANG Logistics Directorate, where he directed the workload of the ANG Directorate of Logistics (NGB/A4), consisting of over 100 military, civil service, and contract employees assigned to the Directorate. He also served as the principle advisor to the ANG Director of Logistics for all matters pertaining to the management of the ANG's fleet of over 1100 aircraft and 15,000 vehicles, as well as the programming and execution of an annual operating budget exceeding $3.1B. In 2008, he assumed command of the 173d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Kingsley Field, Oregon, where he was responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all aircraft generation maintenance/weapons requirements for the Wing's 21 F-15C/D aircraft. In 2010, he assumed command of the 187th Maintenance Group, Montgomery Regional Airport, Alabama.
