FORT PICKETT, Va. — Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia, recognized seven state employees for their outstanding service to the Virginia National Guard and the Commonwealth of Virginia in an informal ceremony held Feb. 13, 2013, at Fort Pickett. Long presented the Virginia Bronze Star to employees that had been recommended by their supervisors for their outstanding service.
“It is always important that we recognize employees who do great service for the Virginia National Guard,” Long said. “It is an honor and a privilege for me to present these awards. We have so many great state and federal employees as well as family members who support the Guard, it is great to let them know we care about them and appreciate what they do.”
Long recognized the following employees:
Terri Stallings was recognized as a team member in the Administration Section of the Army Personnel Branch for the Virginia Department of Military Affairs. She processed hundreds of inquiries, military orders and tuition assistance packets in an exceptional manner and was nominated for the Governor’s Teamwork Award in 2012.
Mary Jackson was recognized as a team member in the Administration Section of the Army Personnel Branch for the Virginia Department of Military Affairs. She processed hundreds of inquiries, military orders and replied to hundreds of phone calls in an exceptional manner and was nominated for the Governor’s Teamwork Award in 2012.
Jamie Lewis was recognized as the director of the DMA Fiscal Office. She created fiscal controls for departments in the DMA and improved accountability throughout the agency. She was nominated for the Governor’s Star Award in 2012.
Sean Kanipe was recognized as an energy conservation specialist in the Facilities Management Office. Because of his hard work and dedication, more than $23 million was executed for energy savings performance contracts and $3 million was executed for energy construction projects. He also earned his certification as an energy auditor and completed the Lean Six Sigma Course. He was nominated for the Governor’s Innovation Award for 2012.
Crystal Pendergrass was recognized as the Information Technology Help Desk supervisor. Her management of the section and strong sense of customer service have been invaluable to the efficiency and effectiveness of the section. She was nominated for the Governor’s Customer Service Award in 2012.
Kevin Hendrix was recognized as a key member of the Information Technology Team for DMA. He developed new processes and procedures that saved the DMA approximately $400,000 in additional costs and has been the lead as the network manager, operations manager and network engineer. He was nominated for the Governor’s Career Achievement Award for 2012.
Lacora Hurte was recognized for her outstanding effort in the areas of community service and volunteer work. She raised more than $1,600 for the Combined Virginia Campaign and also volunteered her time with the Madelyn House in Nottaway County, the Massey Cancer Center and the March of Dimes. She was nominated for the Governor’s Community Service and Volunteerism Award in 2012.
